Alex Mercer (born 17th March 1934) is an Australian professional golfer. He began his sporting career with a series of tournament wins in the 1950s and 60s, until a serious back injury forced him into coaching. In this role, he taught famous Australian players such as Steve Elkington, Jan Stephenson, Peter O’Malley, and Michael Campbell. He was a Professional at Royal Sydney Golf Club for 35 years, and spent 19 of these years as the organisation's Head Professional. In 2023 he recieved the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to the sport.
