Bahram Baryal, born on July 28, 1951, in the Kingdom of Afghanistan, Karte Char, Kabul, is an Afghan film producer, writer, and director. Baryal has produced and directed more than 55 feature and television films in Kabul, including some of his most notable works such as Mirk, Janan, and Dream or Reality. Throughout his artistic career, he has been recognized and honored by various governmental, cultural, private, and international institutions for his significant contribution to Afghan cinema. Beyond filmmaking, Bahram Baryal is also active in painting, playwriting, photography, and poetry, making him a multidisciplinary artist whose creative vision extends across multiple forms of art. He began his career working in Afghan Film, serving as a sound engineer, director, and screenwriter, and later became the head of Tolo Studio at the ANCO Institute in 1993. He has created numerous documentaries and educational dramas addressing social and cultural issues, and has served as the Secretary of the Afghan Cinematographers’ Union.
