François Billetdoux

Sep 7, 1927 - Paris, France

François Billetdoux, a Parisian born and bred, was a true Renaissance man of the arts. He wore many hats - playwright, novelist, director, actor, producer. He was a leading figure in the "new theater" movement, known for his sharp wit and often darkly humorous take on the world. His plays often expressed the burlesque style mixed with dark humor.

He was a member of the Conseil du développement culturel from 1971 to 1973 and president of the Société des gens de lettres from 1982 to 1986, and co-founder at that time of the Civil Society of Multimedia Authors (SCAM).

His daughter, Raphaële Billetdoux is also a writer. In 1989 he was awarded the Grand Prix du Théâtre de l’Académie Française
