Annette Kennerley

No birthday available.

Annette Kennerley is a filmmaker and writer living in London. From the late eighties through to the late nineties, artist-filmmaker Annette Kennerley created a unique and deeply personal body of 16mm films that explored the emotional ebb and flow of lesbian relationships and sexuality. At times joyous, witty and sexy yet tinged with melancholy, these films offer an emotionally frank and at times voyeuristic journey through the memories of contentment, desire and regret, with specific reference to her relationship with her young son jack and their playful experiments with gender fluidity.

Annette was an early enquirer into trans relationships and identities. Shooting intimate straight-to-camera interviews with transgender people, she made several documentaries and co-directed the International Transgender Film Festival at the Lux cinema in London in the late 1990s. Annette has a degree in fine art (film and video) from Saint Martins College of Art, London. She has worked mainly with super 8 and 16mm film, experimenting with optical printing techniques. Her work has exhibited at cinemas and film festivals nationally and internationally.
