Fehmi Hoshafi

Fehmi Hoshafi (September 28, 1934 – 2019) was an Albanian film director and screenwriter known for his contributions to Albanian cinema. Born in Tirana, Hoshafi began his career in the film industry as an assistant director to veterans Hysen Hakani and Kristaq Dhamo on films such as Toka jonë (1964), Vitet e para (1965), Oshëtimë në bregdet (1967), and Gjurma (1970). In 1968, Hoshafi directed Estrada në ekran (Estrada on the Screen), a film adaptation of a theatrical performance. He co-directed the acclaimed comedy Kapedani (The Captain, 1972) with Muharrem Fejzo, which tells the story of an aging veteran struggling to adapt to societal changes regarding women's rights. Other notable works include Shoku ynë Tili (Our Friend Tili, 1981) and Deputeti i grave (Deputy of Women, 1987). Hoshafi's films often addressed social themes and were instrumental in shaping Albanian cinema during his active years. He passed away in 2019 at the age of 86.
