100 Years

In 2023, the oldest cine-film developing lab in Japan, which celebrated its 100th anniversary, decided to demolish and relocate from historic building. Takashi Makino, who produced this work, continued to record the ruins of the developing lab and the people who worked there. In addition, some film reels discovered in the abandoned building recorded the scenery of Yokohama, which was completely destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. These excavated films were digitized, edited, and abstracted, collaged, and mixed with current footage, crystallizing the 100-year history that has supported film culture with the light of the projector. All of the buildings that appear in this film have been demolished and no longer exist. This is the first experimental documentary film by Makino, who is known for his abstract expressionism.
