The series is set in the 1970s. In the story, the mayor clashes with the idealist Francisgleydisson, owner of Cine Holliúdy—the only cultural attraction in Pitombas, a fictional town in Ceará.

After days spent at home, the residents of Pitombas begin to see a light at the end of the tunnel with Francis’s return to town. The projectionist had traveled to São Paulo to fetch a supply of "Piolhól" ointment—with Biro Lee’s help—in an attempt to cure the population’s lice infestation. However, Mayor Lindoso decides to ban the distribution of the ointment, claiming it could turn the people of Pitombas into lizards.
